The Central Bank imposed a temporary ban on the sale of securities purchased in the Russian Federation by foreigners

From February 28, the Bank of Russia imposed a temporary ban on brokers from executing transactions for the sale of securities on behalf of non-residents of the Russian Federation, the regulator’s press service said.

“The Bank of Russia introduces a temporary ban for brokers on the execution of transactions for the sale of securities on behalf of non-residents from February 28, 2022,” the message says.
Earlier, plans to introduce a temporary ban on the sale of securities purchased in Russia by foreigners were reported by the RBC agency, citing the regulator’s order and two sources. The publication indicated that the Central Bank orders professional participants in the securities market engaged in brokerage activities from 7 am on February 28 until the cancellation of this order to suspend the execution of all orders of clients – foreign legal entities and individuals for the sale of securities. Brokers must also send the Central Bank a report on the suspension of operations.
